Get Strung Out With Strung Out This Thursday!
I knew that summer 2012 was going to be one of the best summers of my life. I was sure that I would be going to a lot of shows and getting to see some great music. I had these thoughts before I knew that Refused, The Bouncing Souls and Fiona Apple would be rolling through town. I could not have anticipated the quality of music that has been coming through the Detroit Metro area for the past few months. More importantly I have realized how crucial it is to see a band when they come into town. The recent death of Tony Sly at 41 years old made me realize that we might not get another chance to see the bands that we love, no one is promised a tomorrow. That’s why I am happy to announce that thanks to Black Iris Booking, punk rock legends Strung Out are playing this Thursday August 9th at the Magic Stick.
Strung Out has been playing music for 20 years. They began playing in 1992 out of California and were quickly signed to Fat Wreck Chords. They rose to fame in 1996 with their album “Suburban Teenage Wasteland" and their follow up in 1998 “Twisted by Design”. They have put out 7 full length albums in total and there is talk about an 8th release coming in 2013. Their music is described as punk rock with a metal element to it and members include Jason Cruz, Jake Riely, Rob Ramos, Chris Aiken, and Jordan Burns. They were a staple in my CD player throughout my formative years and I know that they will put on a great live show.
Tickets are $18 pre-sale for the show and they are playing with The Darlings, Handguns, and Slaves to the Pavement. This is one that you do not want to miss. Bands like this don’t come to town every day.
