I wouldn't say that rock and roll/bluesy bands are necessarily out of my norm, but it's not something I always lean towards. However, when we were given the opportunity to listen to The Sound Logic's new album, I knew I liked it right away. Heavy guitar always grabs my attention, especially coupled with interesting vocals. Musically, The Sound Logic has a bit of that Black Keys, bluesy rock feel, but they are definitely their own, maybe more Detroit-like, sound.
The band is made up of Jeff Knol on vocals/guitar and Yuri Pavlov on drums and they are based out of Detroit. Their new album, T.S.L., and was recorded and mixed at Cold War Studios in Grand Rapids by Rick Johnson (Mustard Plug) and mastered at Magic Garden Mastering (Black Keys, Beck, O.A.R.). There are 12 tracks in total and I have to say that "Lessons & Treasures" is my favorite, but their single, "Call My Name" is a close second.
T.S.L. will be released Saturday, June 1 and to celebrate it, the band is having a record release show at PJ's Lager House. They have a great lineup to compliment their own sound with Amateur Anthropologist, Sleepy Thieves and Hit Society, a band we've been meaning to see. The show starts at 9 p.m. and will only cost you $5 to get in the door. Plus, if you go that night, you'll get a chance to get The Sound Logic's new album for a discounted $5. Not too shabby! I also heard something about wearing a lot of denim to the show and you could get a special gift. I don't know about you, but I'm always up for more denim! If it's good enough for Ryan Gosling, it's good enough for me!
Check out the single from T.S.L. below as a teaser for Saturday night!
