Go Skateboarding Day was originally formed to celebrate skateboarding by taking a day and devoting it to riding. Local riders would change all the 'no skateboarding' signs to ' go skateboarding' signs by defacing them with markers, paint or whatever they could get their hands on. The International Association of Skate Companies decided to legitimize the event and turn it into a national holiday. It was decided that Go Skateboarding Day would be celebrated every June 21st.
This Friday skip work, skip school or skip out on those plans you had with Mom and go spend your day skateboarding. There is nothing like being outside with friends getting a little exercise and having fun. At 3 p.m., head over to the Brewster Projects in Detroit for a ride- all ages and wheels are invited. Click here for more info. Then at 8 o'clock, head over to 4140 Woodward Avenue and catch a free show featuring Andrew W.K., Build and Destroy, and RZL DZL. Let's get the party started and celebrate the skateboarding community of Detroit.
