Great Eats at Republica in Berkley

Until recently I didn't know much about the city of Berkley. I went to the Front every once in awhile to see a band play, but that was about it. Recently, a bunch of people I know started moving into the area, it seems that a lot of of couples are choosing to settle down in Berkeley after they have children. The city is known for having an excellent school system, but is still a hip enough area to go out on the town after the kiddies fall asleep. There are all sorts of new restaurants and bars popping up in the area and one of those new places is a small space called Republica.

I recently visited the restaurant for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent and so was the space. The menu was enticing and offered gluten free and vegetarian options.I had to order the special house fries, which are covered in feta cheese and oregano. I've never seen this done before and wasn't sure how it would taste. It is now my favorite way to eat fries and I keep dreaming about going back and getting them again. I tried the salmon over spinach because it was on special for the night, but there were all sorts of items that I wanted to try, including the gluten free lobster grits with parmesan cheese. Doesn't that sound like it would be amazing? I drank Moscow Mules with my meal and the drinks didn't disappoint. The restaurant also features lots of specialty beers, but I myself am not a beer drinker so I stuck to the liquor.

Republica is located at 1999 Coolidge Hwy., Berkley, MI 48072. For a full menu you can click here. My friend and I really enjoyed ourselves and are looking forward to going back. I highly suggest giving it a try if you are in the area!
