Fizz Boom Read: The Ferndale Public Library Summer Reading Program

The Ferndale Public Library has been getting more and more involved with the community. This year, they even had a stage during Blowout. This summer they have made it their mission to keep kids reading while they are off school. Saturday, June 14th they are kicking off this summer reading program called “Fizz Boom Read”. This kickoff event will feature FREE ice cream from Treat Dreams and a performance by The Grateful Dad’s. The goal is to get kids to pledge to read at least 30 days over the break.

They want local parents to bring the kids in and have them sign up for the 30 day reading challenge. Each child who wants to participate will be given a calendar to mark off the days that they participate, once they have hit 30 days they can bring it back to the library for a prize. They will also be entered into a raffle to win even bigger prizes that have been donated by various local businesses.

This year the library is teaming up with the Michigan Science Center to keep kids reading. The library will be hosting Super Science Saturdays in conjunction with the Summer Reading Program.

This years Super Science Saturdays include:

June 14 @ 1 p.m. - Summer Reading Kick-off and Ice Cream Social featuring Grateful Dads and Treat Dreams (All Ages)

June 21 @ 2 p.m. - Boom, Boom, Wow with the Michigan Science Center (All Ages)

June 28 @ 2 p.m. - Beach Science (Ages 3-6)

July 12 from 7-10 p.m. - Divergent Lock-in (Teens - Parental Permission Required; Registration Required)

July 19 @ 2 p.m. - Magician Tom Plunkard (All Ages)

July 26 @ 2 p.m. - Rocket Science 101 with the Michigan Science Center (Ages 6-12; Registration Required; Ferndale Residents Get First Priority)

They also have weekly and monthly events, including :

Mondays, June 16 - July 21 @ 6:30 p.m. - Family Storytime (All Ages)
Wednesdays, June 18 - July 23 @ 1 pm - Playgroup (Ages 2-5)

Monthly programs:
Every third Wednesday, June 28 and July 16 @ 4 pm - Teen Open Mic (Teens)
