The DIY Street Fair is Happening and It's Happening this Weekend!!!

Earlier this year Facebook was flooded with posts and re-posts about the DIY Street Fair being cancelled for this year. Due to construction, the festival decided to take a pass for 2014 and come back in 2015. Immediately after announcing this, it became apparent exactly how many people love this event. It seemed like everyone was posting about how disappointed they were and were wishing that it somehow wasn't true.

Well, about a month ago all of those people's wishes came true when DIY took it all back and said they would in fact be having the festival this year. And the time has finally come. The festival that was not supposed to be, is in fact going to be happening, and it is this weekend!

This Friday, Saturday and Sunday the DIY Street Fair will be taking over the streets of Ferndale for the 7th consecutive year. This event will feature beer, music, and some of the best DIY artists and vendors Metro Detroit has to offer. Whether you are looking for quirky art, handmade one of a kind jewelry, or an awesome new Detroit shirt, DIY has it. This festival features artists that you wouldn't see at a "normal" art fair or craft show. Everything is just a little different and a little "hipper", if you will.

And, in case you haven't heard, the official Friday night DIY After Party is being presented by yours truly. That's right, Hip In Detroit is very excited to be involved in this year's DIY. When the organizers asked us to put together a showcase, we couldn't say no. So Friday night, after things wind down outside, head into The Loving Touch to keep the party going with us, DJ Thomas Xu, Cheerleader, Little Animal, and the one and only Tunde Olaniran. Plus, to keep up with the DIY theme, we will have Hype Ignition on site screen printing the first ever Hip In Detroit shirts! The icing on the cake is that this is Sadie's Birthday party too! So it's going to be a blast, to say the least. 

The DIY Street Fair runs from 6 p.m. 'til Midnight on Friday, 11 a.m. until Midnight on Saturday, and 11 a.m. 'til 11 p.m. on Sunday. The festivities take place on 9 Mile east of Woodward, in the parking lot between the library and The Emory, and in the parking lot behind The WAB and The Loving Touch.
