Saturday night at the
Magic Stick The Swellers played to a packed house for their final show in Detroit. The band officially announced they were calling it quits back in June and that they would be hitting some of their favorite cities to play final shows, with the last of the dates being in Detroit. Fans came out in swarms to sing along and say goodbye to this amazing Michigan band.
The Swellers were joined both on and off stage by fellow musicians and friends from countless bands in the area, showing how much this band and the guys in it are respected by our music community. The lineup was stacked, with
BraidedVeins,
Kid Brother Collective,
Loose Planes and even
The Fullblast. This was the first time that The Fullblast has played in Detroit and years and they were fucking fantastic!
It is indeed sad to see The Swellers go, but we are glad that they went out with bang rather than just fading away. We were lucky enough to capture a couple of videos throughout their set, including the very last song of the night.
Although The Swellers are no more, we hope that these 4 talented guys continue to make music for many years to come. If you haven't already, take a second to check out
Jono's new band BraidedVeins. Keep an eye on HipInDetroit.com to find out more about this band and future projects from the rest of the guys too. We congratulate The Swellers on a such a great run and thank them for creating so many great songs and memories for us and the rest of their fans. Best of luck in the future!
