If you are ever in the mood to do something out of the ordinary, you have to head to Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum. Located in Farmington Hills, this place is packed full of coin operated games and machines that will entertain you for hours on end. Although there are quite a few pinball machines and arcade favorites, Marvin's does not pride itself on Pac Man and Galaga. Instead, it houses fortune telling machines, movie viewers, and animated statues from over 100 years ago. The place is covered from top to bottom with amazing things to feast your eyes on.
The museum first was opened in 1990, which is probably around the first time that I ventured to this marvelous place with my dad and mom. We frequented it during my childhood, but then it was probably about 10 years before I headed back to the museum. Some things had changed, more machines were added, but most of my old favorites are still there and the museum is just as awe inspiring and entertaining as an adult as when I was a kid. With a cup full of quarters, you can spend hours there and still not play every machine. Some of my favorites to hit are the fortune tellers, new and old with some even made exclusively for Marvin's, the caged dog
(although I usually make whoever I'm with try this one because I'm still too chicken) and all of the animated figures. There are numerous machines with bizarre scenes, with figures decapitating others or even some that pick their nose. It's always a blast to throw a coin in and see just what will happen.
Over the years Marvin's has gained quite the fan base and has received a lot of notoriety. It has been ranked amongst the top 100 most unusual museums in the US and it was even featured on the History Channel. Click here to check that video out!
If you didn't know this amazing place is right in your backyard, I highly suggest you take a trip there as soon as you can! Admission is free, so all you have to bring is some money to play.
