February is the month for lovers. A lot of us either wish that we had someone to love or are trying to find a way to celebrate the love that we have. This year Valentine's Day lands on a Saturday, so we suggest taking the whole weekend to celebrate with that someone special in your life. This Friday, you can kick off the weekend right by getting all dressed up and heading out to The Last Punk Rock Winter Formal at The Magic Stick.
The Winter formal is basically the Magic Stick's punk rock version of prom. Everyone gets dressed up and comes out to hear some good music, have some booze, and to get a picture in a photo booth with their date. I have dressed up and attended the last few years and much like prom, I only remember about half the night, although I'm pretty sure that means I had a great time. I am a sucker for fashion and I love any excuse to wear my grandmother's fancy vintage dresses, fur coats, and cute little clutches. It's also nice to see the guys get cleaned up for the night. you could say that it is a chance for all the puck rockers to show off their glam sides.
This year's formal will feature live music by Timmy's Organism, Bill Bondsmen, Mexican Knives, Nightbringer & Touch of North America. Tickets for the night are only $7 a person or $10 a couple. So, this is also a cheap date. Think about it, a slice of St. Pepperonis is only $2, so you might be able to get out the door for less than $30 for the night, and that includes a few drinks. We also have a pair of tickets to give away to the event. One lucky couple will get through the doors for free, aka have more money to spend on booze! To enter to win these tickets, please email your full name to hipindetroit@gmail.com. We will draw a winner the day before the show and email them details on how to claim their prize.
Doors for the show are at 8:30 pm and The Magic Stick is located at 4120 Woodward Ave. in Detroit.
