Before Santa there was Krampus. Santa seeks to spread cheer during the holiday season and Krampus hopes to take that cheer away. Instead of rewarding the good children, he seeks to punish the bad ones. The legend of Krampus predates Santa and originates from Germany.
This Friday, December 4th the Tangent Gallery will be be throwing an anti Christmas Celebration called Krampus Night Detroit: A Not So Holiday Celebration. The gallery will be featuring a badly rehearsed holiday show, a light exhibit, a local artist exhibit, a short film festival, a full bar with boozy trimmings, swanky holiday lounge music, food, and an opportunity to take your picture with Krampus!
It costs $15 to attend the event, but if you bring a toy for a little tot it will only cost you $10 to get in and you will get a $5 coupon to use towards a purchase from one of the vendors. Please make sure that the toy is unused and unwrapped! Creative costumes are welcome, but not required and their will also be a silent auction to help raise money for the cause.
The Tangent Gallery is located at 715 E. Milwaukee St. and the fun starts at 7 p.m. this Friday!
The schedule for the night is as follows:
7 p.m. – Wreck The Halls & the Krampus Bazaar opens
8 p.m. – Wreck The Halls film festival starts (& every 1.5hrs)
9 p.m. – Big K arrives giving photo ops, swattings & candy
10 p.m. – Christmahanakwanza Variety Show Spectacular Pt1
11 p.m. – Christmahanakwanza Variety Show Spectacular Pt2
12 a.m. – Bad Street Caroling outside to annoy the neighbors
1 a.m. – Last call (& bidding fight!) for the Silent Auction
