This Saturday, January 23rd head to The Painted Lady to check out a few bands you might not have heard about yet. The lineup includes War War War, Mango Lane and Porch Lights.
War War War is the brainchild of Samuel Boyhtari. So far he has been playing these tunes solo, but now he is ready to branch out and play them with a full band. Here's what Boyhtari had to say about this show, "I've been writing and performing as War War War for several years, but this show will be the first full-band appearance. I've spent the past few months arranging songs with some very close friends and talented musicians, and I'm very excited to begin performing with them. They have put in so much hard work to realize songs that have lived with me for a long time. We'll be making a record later this year, and you can hear some of the songs that will be on it on Saturday." To hear War War War, head over to their bandcamp here.
Mango Lane sites some of their influences as Herbie Hancock, David Bowie, John Coltrane and even The Jackson Five. That's quite the mix, but somehow it works! This band was started by childhood friends Austin Carpenter and Jack Engwall. They've released a few albums over the past year, their latest Liquid Love just came out last week. Head over and check it out here.
Last, but not least on the bill is Porch Lights. Made up of Joe Ragnone, Rob Gagne, Chris Johannes and Jeff Stuhrberg, this band classifies themselves as straight up rock. They definitely have a '60s feel to them, from the tunes we've heard. Head over and have a listen for yourself here.
Saturday's show is set to kick off at 9 p.m. Cover is only $5 and 18+ are welcome. We are also giving away 2 pairs of tickets to this show! If you would like to enter to win, please send your full name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with Mango Lane in the subject line. We will draw two lucky winners the morning of the show and will send them details on how to claim their prize. Good luck!
