In 2015, the founders of Assemble Sound took a risk. They decided that if they built it, artists would come. They opened the doors of the church in 2015 with very little money and a lot of hope. Slowly and surely they cleaned up the space.,bought some recording equipment, and put the call out that they were looking to link up with artists. A few years later they were hosting listening parties for albums that were created right inside their doors by some of Detroit's biggest up and coming artists, including acts like Tunde Olaniran, Sam Austins, Flint Eastwood, and more recently, for up and coming performers like Curtis Roach and NYDGE. Since their meager beginnings, they have made some monumental moves and music that will outlast anything any of us. They have helped change the conversation about what it means to be an artist in the City of Detroit and they have thrown some legendary parties. They have also hosted some free events to help artists in the community take the next steps in their journey. These "classes" are called Assemble U and until now each one of them had a theme or topic. This time around they are hosting an open forum discussion to decide the future of Assemble U. So, if you want to meet other artists, learn more, Assemble, and shape the future of the conversation, head up to the Church this Thursday at 6:30 and speak up!
