Last week, we had a chance to talk with Ally aka Lady Lamb while she prepared for her next tour. She was in the middle of painting a self-portrait when we called, a portrait that she plans to turn into a print that she will sell on tour. This self-portrait is just one of the ways that Ally is sharing herself with her fans. She is also preparing for the release of her new album Even in the Tremor, a project where she exposes everything. She is in love, and she is full of love, and she wants to share it. As we talk about her process she exudes positivity and hopefulness, two themes that you can hear in the first two singles from the album. This feels like a big moment for her, the moment where she lays it all out and sees where it takes her. We particularly connected with "Deep Love" and even teared up a bit when we heard it. Ally is finding joy in living moment to moment, in observing other people's moments, and is finding a way to find "joy in fear" and "peace in chaos".
Hamden, CT is the first stop of a 2-month long tour with her partner by her side. A tour that will take her through Detroit on April 16th before her big finale in her home state of Maine. She is particularly excited about stopping here because she has adopted Detroit as a second home. He partner is actually from here and in-between these tours she has spent some time exploring Detroit. After chatting about the weather and all of the reasons that she is going to love playing Deluxx Fluxx, she named a list of her favorite spots in Detroit that included Eldorado General Store in Corktown, Supino Pizza in Eastern Market, Midway batting cages in Taylor, Blake’s Apple Orchard in Armada, Johnny Noodle King on West Fort, Mudgie’s Deli, the DIA, Cliff Bell's in downtown, American Coney Island and The Henry Ford Museum. An eclectic mix of true Motown that shows that she has the right idea when it comes to Detroit. We love all of those spots and agree that they are all worth a visit.
Tickets to see Lady Lamb play live on April 16th are $15 in advance and they can be purchased here. We also have one pair of tickets to give away to the show courtesy of Party Store Productions, the booking house bringing Lady Lamb to town. If you would like to enter to win, please email your full name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with the subject line #ladylamb. We will draw one lucky winner the day before the show and they will get to attend the show with a friend for free.
