So why did the Thirst Wave parties start in the first place? According to co-founder Kat Paled, there was a lack of regular "retro-oriented" dance parties happening in the area. The ones that were happening were sporadic and focused more on mainstream 80's music. To fill this gap, they decided to start their own party, with the music they loved and grew up with.
Fast forward to today, and the Thirst Wave parties are still going strong. They attract people of all ages, from the older crowd who remembers the club scene at legendary places like Industry and Todd's, to the younger crowd who are just discovering the music for the first time. Everyone is welcome at Thirst Wave, and the inclusive atmosphere at Small's means that anyone can come as they feel comfortable.
And when it comes to dressing for the party, anything goes! Some people come in band t-shirts and jeans, while others come in skin-tight latex and vinyl. The only rule is to come ready to dance!

The next party is Friday, March 24, 2023. It will be a Siouxsie and The Cure Tribute Night.
The parties are 18+ with proper ID. The cover charge is $5 for those 21 and over, and $10 for those 18-20. Resident DJs Pleasure Kitten, Elektrosonik, and Aaron Hingst keep the music going all night long, and doors open at 9 p.m.
So what's next for Thirst Wave? According to Kat, there are a number of upcoming events being planned for summer and fall, so be sure to follow Small's or the 'Thirst Wave Fans' group on Facebook to keep up with the latest news.
After 11 great years, Thirst Wave has become a Detroit tradition, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for this iconic club night. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, come join the party and experience the best in retro dance music at Small's.
