Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend: August 2nd - 4th

Friday, August 2nd - Sunday, August 4th - Dearborn Homecoming Festival: It seems like every year the Dearborn Homecoming Festival gets bigger and better, and this year is no different! The three day festival will feature a carnival, fireworks, food, live music and more. Admission is free, but you should plan to pay for parking (sounds like about $10). That's a pretty good deal considering the lineup is pretty great all weekend! The Verve Pipe headlines on Friday, Kylie Morgan on Sunday, but the best day to us is Saturday with Handgrenades opening up for The All American Rejects! Handgrenades hit the stage for the first time in over a year at 7 p.m., followed by The All American Rejects at 8:45 p.m. Check out the full lineup for the weekend here. Dearborn Homecoming takes place at Ford Field in Dearborn.

Saturday, August 3rd - Return of the Start: A Celebration of Star Wars Fandom @ Norwest Gallery: Head to Norwest Gallery this Saturday for an exhibit that is out of this world! The show will feature Star Wars inspired art from over a dozen artists, including John Dunivant (SpaceDive/Theatre Bizarre). Attendees are encouraged to come in costume to add to the experience, and if you do you'll even save a few bucks. Tickets are $10 with a costume and $20 without. Get yours here. The show goes from 6-9 p.m.

Saturday, August 3rd - The Boreouts @ Outer Limits: The Rovers Vintage Scooter Club will be taking over Outer Limits Lounge this Saturday night for a fun night with The Boreouts! The show is part of the Motor City Shakedown 20, a rally for vintage scooter enthusiasts! If you're going to the Shakedown, admission is free with a bracelet. If not, cover is $10. Expect a night of great music and lots of cute scooters! Things kick off at 8 p.m.

Saturday, August 3rd & Sunday, August 4th - Webcomicon @ The Rust Belt: Meet the creators of some of your favorite online comics at the Webcomicon! It's happening this Saturday and Sunday at The Rust Belt Market in Ferndale. Some of the artists in attendance include Detroit's own Nick Seluk (The Awkward Yet/Heart & Brain), Sarah Andersen (Sarah's Scribbles), and Brian Gordon (Fowl Language Comics). Check out the full list of who will be there here. Tickets are $20 at the door on Saturday and $10 for kids. Then on Sunday, adults are still $20, but kids and students with an ID get in free. The con goes from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday and noon - 5 p.m. on Sunday. Head to webcomicon.com for more info.
